Daily Bible Study

Good morning, get your Bible, its time to study! In Genesis 22 we come to the account of God testing Abraham. Now the Bible says here, “that God did tempt Abraham” yet the Bible also says in James 1:13 that, “God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man.” A temptation is a solicitation to do something (my definition), to test is to see if something is known or will be done (again my definition). God was not going to allow Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac but was seeing if he would be willing to do whatever He (God) would tell him (Abraham) to do. Abraham passed the test; would you?

Why would God do this to Abraham? A test is not only a showing experience, its a growing experience. So far Abraham has vacillated in his faith. He had the faith to obey God and leave his home for a place of promise he knew nothing about. Twice however, he has showed a lack of trust by lying about his wife. This test is a major test, you might say its his spiritual final exam. This time he shows himself, his peers and his God that he is committed to the God of Heaven. There’s not another man in the Bible tested this way. However, the very God who tested Abraham did the very thing He stopped Abraham from doing; He sacrificed His own Son that you and I might be forgiven and reinstated as His children.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (What a friend we have in Jesus!!)

There is great blessing in passing God’s tests. Most men (as well as women) fail miserably. Passing the test comes in keeping our focus on Him! Hebrews 12:1-2 …let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Genesis 23 starts by announcing the death of Sarah. This is sad but until Jesus comes again, death is a normal process of life. Sarah entertained angels and personally communed with God on this earth. It must have been a glorious meeting in Heaven when she got there. The Bible says, “Precious in the sight of the Lᴏʀᴅ is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15 God is as anxious for us to get to heaven as we are to go! Are you ready? If you are reading this and there is any doubt that your relationship with God through Christ is right please give me a call at Smyrna Baptist Church and ask for me. If I’m not there, tell the person that answers the phone to have me call you right away and give them your number. I promise I will call you as soon as I get the message. It’s that important! God bless.
