Bible Reading: Numbers 3-4

As chapters 1 and 2 of Numbers were about order, so chapters 3 and 4 are about operation. Taking the family of Moses and Aaron, God set them apart unto Himself. They were substitutes for the firstborn whom God chose for Himself. These families were to take care of the Tabernacle and all of its furnishings from the very smallest item to the Tabernacle itself. Remember that the things taking place here are a foreshadow of things to come.

“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” (1 Corinthians 10:11)

So what God is saying is there is far more to serving Him then just sitting in the blessing of God. There was responsibility and discipline. We are saved to serve.

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Keep this in mind, in many cases the responsibilities given to these men were menial and routine. There are thousands of professing Christians who want to be used but they want a position of significance, they want the lime-light. They are not willing to don the apron and do the dirty work.

The greatest work, and probably the hardest work, is to tell others about Jesus and convince them to trust in Jesus.
