Bible Reading: Leviticus 26-27

The choice put before the people of Israel here is a no-brainer! Who wouldn’t choose the blessings over the judgements mentioned for those who refuse to follow God’s Word? The problem was that the choice was not followed by obedience. It is one thing to want something, it is quite another to commit to it! God’s people today want His blessing but they want their own lusts as well. It seems Christians, like the children of Israel, are not willing to separate themselves from the world. They want to be accepted by them and enjoy their ways. Christians want to dress like, walk like, talk like, be accepted by and get comfortable in this Christ-less world.

God was clear in His Word! “And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.” ( Leviticus 26:27-28) Now the great majority of Christians will loudly protest, “This is Old Testament. God is love today, we don’t HAVE to do what it says.” What applies here is the principle. God wanted a separate people who would glorify Him by their obedience. He had liberated and led them supplying their every need. He then promised He would bless them in a marvelous way (I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. Leviticus 26:6) if they would just be His special people BUT THEY WANTED TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! God still wants a separate people to glorify Him!

What are you doing with your life? Is there a difference between you and the lost and hell-bound of this world, or are you just like them? When someone sees you do they identify you as “different” or as one of them? Is just reading this making you uncomfortable or worse; angry? Young Christians today are for the most part looking for churches that DON’T PREACH AGAINST SIN. They want entertainment. They want encouragement. They want the environment of the world. (The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire…2 Peter 2:22) Christian, don’t get mad. Get determined to find out for yourself and follow the LORD!

Leviticus 26:18-20

Leviticus 27:2  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation.

The point of this passage is the dedication of people. Hannah vowed to give her child Samuel to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:11) . She fulfilled the vow literally by giving Samuel to the Lord’s service. In most cases however the vow was “redeemed” with money which was given back to the Lord’s work. The estimation (value) of the dedicated one was set by God based upon the age and sex (ut-oh) of the person. The same applies for animals or property that are dedicated. It is valued by the priest and “redeemed” with money. In this case redeemed means bought back.

These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai. (Leviticus 27:34)

The LORD commanded these things. I wonder how many accused Moses of requiring this and not accepting that it was from God. That again is the escape today. It’s the preacher that’s to blame for the rules, not God. One day we will see for sure!! God bless, have a great day!!
