Bible Reading: Leviticus 14-15

Leprosy in the human and the house was a deadly and destructive thing. Leprosy was as leaven was, symbolic of sin. It was deforming, debilitating and dividing. By dividing I mean it forced the separation of the afflicted individual from everyone else lest the disease spread to those who come in contact with the afflicted person. Keep this in mind when you read these pages, God is the Great Physician. Obedience to Him can and does bring healing. Don’t scoff at the prescription that He gives to us through His Word. Following God’s commands can bring healing to both the body and the soul. God always requires the blood of a sacrifice for purging. There were unbelievers in that day as there are today. Those who won’t believe, won’t follow God’s command, won’t be healed. Today, with all of the modern medicine we have, it is very easy to forget God. We may be able to receive physical healing from the benefit of modern medicine but all the medicine in the world can not heal the result of sin in the soul; ONLY JESUS!

Dr. J Vernon McGee says that this chapter does not record a cure for leprosy but a ceremonial cleansing of the cured leper. Either way it was necessary to be re-united with the family of God’s people. Can we sin and assume God’s forgiveness and expect all to go on as if it never happened? Can there be forgiveness for those who refuse to believe that their sin is indeed sin and consequently don’t seek forgiveness? I have said it many times before and I will continue to say it, if there is a question always give God the benefit of the doubt. I would rater NOT do something that might be sin than to insist on MY rightness and find out I missed the blessing of God because I was wrong. I could give you a list of areas to which I have applied that principle. The wonderful benefit we have today is that we do not have to go through the ritual of killing a bird and mixing its blood with running water, cedar wood, scarlet and hyssop and dipping a living bird in the mixture and releasing it. We apply the blood of Jesus by faith and that takes care of it all!

Hebrews 9:14

Leviticus 15 clearly shows how important the principle of separation is. Christians today have surely lost sight of this principle despite the fact that it is strongly repeated in the New Testament. “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”   (2 Corinthians 6:17) May God grant us the grace necessary to obey Him in this thing. It doesn’t mean hate the lost or worldly, it means DON’T HANG with them, they will infect you with their “issues.”
