Daily Bible Study

Genesis 40:8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

The King’s Butler and Baker whom Joseph was charged with keeping were bothered by a dream they both had the same night. The dreams were different yet they both had one the same night and they both were bothered by the fact that they didn’t understand the dream and had no one (they thought) that could tell them the meaning them. Usually dreams are about someone with whom we have recently interacted or something that we have done, but these dreams weren’t about anything like that. These dreams were about the future; their future. God was the giver of these dreams, they weren’t the normal activity of the subconscious. They told Joseph what they dreamed and God gave Joseph the wisdom to interpret those dreams. They were a message to these men from God concerning their immediate future. The Lord is setting up the events that will lead to not only the release of Joseph, as he has done nothing wrong but rather right, but also to his exhalation to leadership in Egypt.

Keep this in mind dear reader, God is the Master Designer of this universe and it’s events. There are no accidents with God. While He gives man a free-will He stays several steps ahead of him to alter his path to accomplish His will. There are those who resist and are said to be outside of His will and there are those who comply and are said to be in His will. Jesus said, “And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did accordingto his will, shall be beaten with many stripes”. (Luke 12:47)

There is blessing in finding and following God’s will and there is consequences in refusing and opposing it. Are you dear reader in His will? You say you don’t know but if God wants you to be in His will do you think He would hide it from you? There is a promise given to Jeremiah that I believe applies to everyone. It’s found in Jeremiah 12:
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lᴏʀᴅ, thoughts of peace, and notof evil, to give you an expected end.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
The problems that many have in life are a result of seeking their own way and resisting God’s. Make no mistake, life is not a cake walk when serving the LORD but His strength and help is ever present when you walk with Him!

Well, the interpretation came to life just as Joseph said; The butter was restored and the baker was executed. Joseph however, was never mentioned until one night the King (Pharaoh) had a dream that bothered him and none of his “wise men” could explain it to him. Then the butler remembered Joseph. It wasn’t long before Joseph was the King’s executive assistant. I’ve heard that referred to as “a God thing” meaning that it just doesn’t happen, God is in it. Again keep this in mind, when you walk with God, He’s in everything (Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Actually Pharaoh’s dream was a nightmare that God used to have Joseph make a dream by giving the necessary wisdom to spare Egypt during a horrible time of drought. It was also the vehicle that God used to unite Joseph with his estranged family. Joseph was given the very best opportunity to enact vengeance on his brothers but he has had an excellent attitude in misfortune times and it doesn’t change in the fortunate times! What made Joseph such an excellent personality? It wasn’t financial position because he had none in prison. It had to be the Spirit of God with whom Joseph walked. If we could learn to walk in the Spirit we too would respond to life in a positive way regardless of the circumstance that get in the way. Walking in the Spirit requires focus and faithfulness. It is something you have got to want it on purpose!!
